Planning and organising is one of my strengths, thus making Sprint Planning one of my favourite events, however, I’ve joined some in my time where they are drawn out, unmotivated, lacking focus, and generally quite draining.

Making Sprint Planning a little more fun can help improve team engagement and productivity. Here are some of my top ways to make it a bit more fun;

1. Set a positive and relaxed atmosphere: Start the Sprint Planning meeting by creating a friendly and open environment. Encourage team members to share their thoughts and ideas without judgment.

2. Use visual aids: Utilise visual aids such as whiteboards, sticky notes, or digital collaboration tools to make the planning process more interactive. This can help team members visualise and organise their tasks, making them more engaging.

3. Gamify the planning process: Incorporate elements of gamification into Sprint Planning. For example, you can use a timer and challenge the team to complete the planning within a certain timeframe. Recognise and reward individuals or teams who accomplish their planning objectives efficiently.

4. Break it down into smaller segments: Instead of having one long planning session, consider breaking it down into smaller segments. Take regular breaks or include short team-building activities between planning tasks. This will keep the energy levels high and make the process more enjoyable.
